about the Unit

The Unit of Communications and Marketing (UCM) of the Open University of Tanzania was established in 2007 for the purpose of marketing and publicizing OUT within and outside Tanzania. Among its key roles are to document, disseminate and sale OUT activities and outputs and to advice the OUT management on public relations matters. The Unit also handles all internal and external communications of the University. As such, the DCM Office is the main point of contact for different OUT stakeholders and for facilitation of information flow from one part of the university to another.

The Unit also is responsible for publishing the general OUT information, news and events for sharing with both internal and external audiences. Our goal is to achieve strategic marketing and positive relationship with the many OUT stakeholders so as to assist the realization of the University’s vision, mission and core functions.

The Unit of Communications and Marketing works through its two departments which are department of Communications and department of Marketing. The directorate is responsible to ensure effective marketing and communications within and outside the university. The directorate also ensures that the links are well publicized so that interested stakeholders would exploit the opportunities contained therein.

The Unit of Communications and Marketing also oversees the activities of Mwalimu J.K. Nyerere Center for Good Governance and Media Studies which is under the department of Communications, among of its projects include establishing Radio and Television Stations for the university, Cycled short courses, Video editing/film making Lab.

These serves several purposes, including but not limited to increasing the visibility of the university through pro-active engagement with the public as the university’s medium of communication. The Radio and Television will also enhance the Open and Distance Learning philosophy, which is the major mode of delivery by the university by providing an avenue for delivery of academic programmes.
