It is my great pleasure to extend a warm welcome to you on behalf of the entire Open University of Tanzania (OUT) community. OUT is a fully-fledged, autonomous, and accredited public university established by an Act of Parliament Number 17 of 1992. Since its inception in 1993, OUT has been at the forefront of providing accessible, quality higher education through innovative open and distance learning methods.

As an institution, we pride ourselves on our commitment to excellence in academic programs, offering a wide range of certificate, diploma, degree, and postgraduate courses through flexible learning modes such as face-to-face, broadcasting, telecasting, correspondence, seminars, e-learning, and blended learning. Our academic programs are rigorously quality-assured and centrally regulated by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU), ensuring that we maintain the highest standards of education.

OUT’s headquarters are temporarily located off-Kawawa Road in Kinondoni Municipality, Dar es Salaam, while the permanent headquarters are under construction in Kibaha District, Coast Region. Our extensive network of regional and coordinating centers, both within Tanzania and internationally, provides support to our diverse student body. This vast network ensures that our students, regardless of location, receive the resources and guidance needed to succeed in their academic journeys.
