Doctor of Philosophy in Law (PhD)

The primary objective of the Program of Doctor of Philosophy in Law offered in the Faculty of Law at the Open University of Tanzania is to enable a student to do advanced legal research with a view of extending the limits of what is currently known through innovative and high-quality work. PhD students are supervised, guided, and continuously provided with necessary critical comments so that they gain the capacity to devise, design and conduct research that has real academic weight, is targeted and shows integrity. Students are mentored, counselled to learn inner professional skills in the design of a research project, the conduct of the search to obtain relevant data, the analytical skills to perform an evaluation of the data and have the ability to write up a coherent and generally acceptable thesis of high academic standard based on his/her chosen area of study. Such work must be original and offer a contribution to knowledge.
