SIGNING OF MoU BETWEEN OPEN UNIVERSITY OF TANZANIA AND TANZANIA INSTITUTE OF BANKERS

29th January 2019; Dar es Salaam: The vice-chancellor, the Open University of Tanzania [ OUT} Prof Elifas Tozo Bisanda, would like to
let the public know that. The Open University of Tanzania has today signed an agreement of collaboration with the Tanzania Institute of
Bankers [TfOBj.

This collaboration will enhance efficiency in service provision and resource sharing between Open University of Tanzania and Tanzania Institute of Bankers [TIOB) and will provide the students with access to knowledge end resources provided by both institutions.

“The signing of this MOU, gives The Open  University of Tanzania an opportunity to demonstrate the diversity of the programs it offers and sets the grounds for building efficiency through partnership for better and easy access to learning materials as well as physical and online resources”, said Prof. Elifas Bisanda.

The Open University of Tanzania is a Public Institution established by an Act of Parliament No. 17 of 1992 to provide Higher Education through Open and Distance Learning. The university has a large footprint of 30 branches in all regions of Mainland Tanzania and in the Unguja and Pemba Islands. On the other hand, The Tanzania Institute of Bankers (TIOB) was established in 1993 under the Companies Ordinance (Cap 21 2) of the laws of Tanzania, with the mandate of promoting the banking profession by providing professional banking education and skills development to bank staff in Tanzania, aimed at strengthening and enhancing skills and knowledge of banking industry executives.

The Tanzania Institute of Bankers signed the agreement of collaboration with the Open University of Tanzania in order to use the University’s resources for training of banking professionals throughout the country. These include lectures, classes and computer labs available in all regions of mainland Tanzania as well as Unguja and Pemba Islands

Speaking during the event, the TIOB Executive Director, Mr* Patrick Mususa said. “ This partnership is very important in ensuring that professional bankers and TIOB members receive training, skills, and knowledge for sustainable development of the financial industry and the country’s economy at large. The partnership will enable TIOB members to have access to TIOB e-learning and online (earning platforms through the computerized infrastructure at The Open University centers countrywide and will also give an opportunity for banking certificate and Diploma students to have progression into degree programs offered by the OUT.
