Department of Private Law

This is basic administrative unit within the Faculty of the University organized to carry on and develop the instructional and research activities. The current head of department is Dr. Doreen F. Mwamlangala who is a lecturer in law at the Faculty of Law. The head of this department has the responsibility to maintain academic quality and departmental vitality through the oversight, recruitment, and retention of faculty staff teaching as well as retaining students. The head of department has a responsibility of ensuring smooth daily operation of the department related to teaching as per the University schedules, research and consultancy activities. The Head has a duty of making sure that all courses are properly updated, taught and assessed. The courses falling under this department include: Land Law, Law of Contract, computer Skills for Lawyers; development Studies; Labour Law; Law of Business Associations, Cooperatives and Public Enterprises; Private International Law; Tax Law; Intellectual property law; Information Technology Law; Banking Law; Insolvency and Bankruptcy Law; Environmental Law; Legal Aspects of International Trade and Investment; and Commercial Law. Among one of main responsibilities of this department is obtaining up-to-date, relevant and accurate departmental academic and administrative related data for processing and or for generating relevant information to guide the university management for accurate and timely decision making on university matters.
